BABY
SHOWER ETTIQUETTE
**Cultural
and religious traditions should always be
taken into account when planning a baby shower.
Due to some cultural/religious traditions,
parents prefer not to receive gifts until
after the birth of the baby. Make sure to
check with the parents-to-be.
Who
usually throws the baby shower
As tradition dictates,
the person throwing the shower should ideally
be a non-relative. This is so to not give
the impression that the family is asking for
gifts. Usually, a close friend or co-worker
will be delighted to help you celebrate this
joyous occasion.
PLANNING & PREPARING THE BABY SHOWER
Date and time
Consult with the expectant mother to find
out the ideal time of day for her. Always
make sure to take into account all major holidays
and cultural events.
Baby showers are typically thrown between
2-3 months before the baby is due. Plan it
far enough into the pregnancy and early enough
in case the baby decides to make an unexpected
appearance!
Baby showers can be thrown after the birth
of the baby as well. This is a good way for
everyone to meet the new little bundle of
joy and you can ensure that the gifts are
gender-specific (if the gender of the baby
was not known during the pregnancy or the
parents-to-be preferred to keep the gender
a surprise)
Location
There are several places a baby shower can
be held. Make sure to take into account some
important factors such as capacity, costs
and available dates and times and convenience
for all guests.
- The home of the organizer
- A favorite restaurant
- A rented reception hall
- Outdoors party area (ex: a park ideal
for other children to play)
- Have a day at the spa help the mother-to-be
relax and be pampered before the arrival of
the baby
Guest list
Make sure to consult the parents-to-be to
help you set up the guest list. This way,
you can ensure that no one is left out.
